Concordia University: Great Canadian University with English Intermediate Language

Concordia University or called Concordia is one university in Canada that uses English as its intermediate language. As Canadian public research university, Concordia is the largest university in Canada. Concordia was founded in 1974 and is a coeducational and non-sectarian institution. Since it was a merge between Sir George Williams University and Loyola College, Concordia has two campuses, the Loyola Campus in the Notre-Dame-de-GrĂ¢ce residential district and Sir George Williams Campus in downtown of Montreal in Quartier Concordia area. Those campuses are separated in seven km and consist of four facilities including the institutes, centers, colleges and school of graduate studies.


Concordia University is great university since it was ranked 7th in Canada based of the International Professional Classification of Higher Education Institutions and ranked 13th based on the Maclean’s 23rd annual rankings. In the 2013, Concordia was ranked 481-490th internationally based on QS World University Rankings and ranked. In 2012, Concordia was nationally ranked 20th in science and engineering and 9th in the field of social science. The Stingers, Concordia varsity teams, participate in the Quebec Student Sport Federation of Canadian Interuniversity Sport.


There are more than 285 undergraduate programs in Concordia University. They are divided into four faculties, the John Molson School of Business Students the Faculty of Fine Arts, the Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science, and the Faculty of Arts and Science. There are 70 programs in the School of Graduate Studies leading to Master’s and doctoral degrees, including graduate diplomas and certificates for professionals. For students who seek programs and services designed to make it easier for students to attend the university and be successful in the business. As a member of the Canadian Association for Co-operative Education (CAFCE), Concordia through its Institute for Co-operative Education helps students to fulfill their study by participating in career-relevant paid work terms. In certain disciplines, Industrial Experience and Professional Experience program enable students to participate in a summer-only work program.

Student Activities

In athletics, The Concordia Stingers, Concordia University’s athletic teams compete in Canadian Interuniversity Sport and in the Quebec Student Sports Federation and the Quebec University Football League. The university varsity teams include football soccer, rugby and wrestling as well as ice hockey and basketball. In organizations, the CSU or Concordia Student Union is the undergraduate student representation organization at Concordia University. CSU is now the only legal student accountable to constituents. Concordia offer campus television and radio station, student-run newspapers including The Concordian, The Link, and L’Organe (French language newspaper). There are also sororities and fraternities such as The Delta Phi Epsilon Zeta Tau Omega, Mu Omicron Zeta, The Brotherhood of Omicron and Tau Kappa Epsilon.
